J79

The J79 is an axial-flow turbojet engine designed for fighter and bomber aircraft. It was developed by General Electric Aircraft Engines in the 1950’s with the goal of attaining reliable Mach 2 capabilities. The first flight using the engine took place in 1955. Platforms that use the J79 include the F-104 Starfighter, F-4 Phantom II, A-5 Vigilante, and B-58 Hustler.
